What is PTSA? PTSA stands for Parent Teacher Student Association. PTSA is an 501c3 tax-exempt organization designed for parents, educators, students, and other citizens to be active in their schools and communities. What does it mean "to join PTSA"? We ask potential members for a $10.00 membership fee. From this amount, a small portion goes to the State and National PTA for legislative support of the educational programs throughout the state and the country. Discovery High School keeps the remaining amount as a donation. The major source of PTSA funding is your membership and donations. The PTSA relies heavily on donations, sponsorships, and fundraising to help support the students and school. What is the money used for? Discovery High PTSA promotes education and extra-curricular activities at our school. These programs are funded solely by the membership drive and school-wide fundraisers. Our parents work very hard to raise money for educational supplies & scholarships, athletic equipment, student activities, and staff appreciation at Discovery High School. How do I get involved? We are always looking for help, but volunteering is not required. Different programs and activities require long-term and short-term chairmen and committee members/helpers. Therefore, volunteers are needed throughout the school year for all events. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our PTSA volunteer coordinator by signing up on our Volunteer Page www.discoveryhighptsa.weebly.com/volunteer.html Georgia PTA is kicking off our Local Control Rules Campaign and we need your help. The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness of the effort to defeat the Opportunity School District Constitutional Amendment and to further our grassroots efforts. We also want the Governor to know that we are not in favor of his initiative and we will not be silent. We will advocate for the educational well being of our students. Attend Georgia PTA’s Advocacy Day on October 6, 2016 at the Capitol where we will walk our Local Control Rules campaign rulers into the Governor’s office!
