Happy New Year Titans!
The Discovery High PTSA would like to welcome you to 2017 with exciting upcoming events.
Coming soon is our largest and most anticipated fundraiser of the school year, The Miss Discovery Pageant. We have opened the pageant to the entire Discovery Cluster and have some of the most eager young ladies, ready to represent the Discovery community. We are ready to make history and crown our very first Miss Discovery and her court. You do not want to miss this event, February 11, 2017, at 6pm in the Discovery High School Theatre!
For the winter months, the PTSA will focus on increasing our membership numbers to reach our annual goal of 300. We currently have 188 paid PTSA members and need your assistance reaching new members. Ask a friend, teacher, or community member if they have already joined the PTSA. If not, ask them to sign up. Membership is only $10 for the year.
This spring, the PTSA will gear up to celebrate our graduating seniors and showing our appreciation to the wonderful teachers and administration of Discovery High School. During Senior Week and Teacher Appreciation Week, the PTSA will be looking for volunteers to help plan and assist with activities. We hope that you will join us along the way.
If you know anyone interested in joining the PTSA or an event committee, please direct them to the PTSA website http://www.discoveryhighptsa.weebly.com for more information.

Students: PTSA student leaders earn community service hours for their contributions to the organization.
Businesses: PTSA strives to create meaningful partnerships and alliances to further family engagement, improve student success, and share relevant resources.
All levels: PTSAs focus on what students need to be successful in their learning, including nutrition, health, school safety, physical fitness and general well-being. PTSA works with schools to ensure that children succeed.

What is PTSA?
PTSA stands for Parent Teacher Student Association. PTSA is an 501c3 tax-exempt organization designed for parents, educators, students, and other citizens to be active in their schools and communities.
What does it mean "to join PTSA"?
We ask potential members for a $10.00 membership fee. From this amount, a small portion goes to the State and National PTA for legislative support of the educational programs throughout the state and the country. Discovery High School keeps the remaining amount as a donation. The major source of PTSA funding is your membership and donations. The PTSA relies heavily on donations, sponsorships, and fundraising to help support the students and school.
What is the money used for?
Discovery High PTSA promotes education and extra-curricular activities at our school. These programs are funded solely by the membership drive and school-wide fundraisers. Our parents work very hard to raise money for educational supplies & scholarships, athletic equipment, student activities, and staff appreciation at Discovery High School.
How do I get involved?
We are always looking for help, but volunteering is not required. Different programs and activities require long-term and short-term chairmen and committee members/helpers. Therefore, volunteers are needed throughout the school year for all events. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our PTSA volunteer coordinator by signing up on our Volunteer Page www.discoveryhighptsa.weebly.com/volunteer.html

Georgia PTA is kicking off our Local Control Rules Campaign and we need your help. The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness of the effort to defeat the Opportunity School District Constitutional Amendment and to further our grassroots efforts. We also want the Governor to know that we are not in favor of his initiative and we will not be silent. We will advocate for the educational well being of our students.

August 2016
Dear Parents, Teachers, Students, & Community Members
Welcome from the Discovery High School PTSA. We hope you enjoyed your summer and are ready for an awesome new year at Discovery.
Your PTSA officers have been busy over the summer planning for a GREAT year! As in the past, we will continue to support the many enrichment programs available for all of our students. Throughout the year, your PTSA plans to support several fun-filled events and host at least two major fundraisers. Discovery is the newest high school to the Gwinnett County Public School System, having opened in August 2015. We welcome and appreciate your support!
The PTSA is a far-reaching organization that has worked to make a difference in the lives of students, families, and teachers in Georgia. We make a difference in the education of our students every day and we will continue to do so at Discovery High School. More than ever, schools are challenged to provide every student with the best education despite growing limitations. Budgets are tight – in most cases, shrinking – while government requirements are growing. Schools are challenged to do more with less. Your PTSA will work to reinforce the limited financial capabilities of our school with the encouragement of its families and community organizations.
Your PTSA continues to strive toward a goal of 100% membership! We would like for each student at Discovery to be represented by a membership. Please consider supporting your student with a PTSA membership, which you may purchase at Open House, Curriculum Nights, Spirit Nights, or via the PTSA website. PTSA membership is $10 for each member. Also, your PTSA will gladly accept donations.
Finally, we encourage our families to become more involved members of your PTSA by serving as members on one of the many committees. Please share your ideas, talents, and interests to continue building a strong and active PTSA organization. Your participation is the foundation that is needed to improve the success of Discovery HS.
Bridge the Gap by joining the PTSA at Discovery High School - we welcome you!
